Walk past the Venum shorts wall, and it is a lot to take in. Six distinct styles, different cuts, different disciplines, and a fair bit of overlap in the names. This guide sorts it out so you know exactly which pair matches your training.
The one thing to read before anything else: Venum shorts run small. Almost always size up. More on that at the end, but keep it in mind as you go.
Classic Muay Thai shorts
Made in Thailand with the traditional Muay Thai cut. Short in the leg, wide and free through the hip and thigh, and built for the full range of a Thai kick. If you train Muay Thai and want the authentic feel, this is the pair.
The traditional cut can feel unfamiliar if you have only worn gym shorts, but there is a reason it has not changed in decades. It lets you throw and check without a thing getting in the way.
Best for: Muay Thai, traditional feel, high kicks and knees.
Attack Muay Thai shorts
Same authentic Muay Thai cut, bolder design. The Attack line is for fighters who want the traditional shape and freedom of movement but with a louder look. The function is the same as the Classic, the difference is on the outside.
Best for: Muay Thai fighters who want the authentic cut with more visual attitude.
MMA fight shorts
UFC official and competition ready. These are built for the cage: a secure closure system, stretch panels for grappling and ground movement, and a shorter, closer cut than the Muay Thai styles. Made to stay put when you are shooting, sprawling and scrambling.
Best for: MMA training and competition, anyone who needs a locked-in short for grappling.
Training shorts
The everyday option. More forgiving in fit than the fight-specific cuts, built for general conditioning, bag work and gym sessions across disciplines. If you want one versatile pair that is not tied to a single sport, start here.
Best for: general training, conditioning, cross discipline gym work.
Compression and Vale Tudo
Worn on their own or layered under shorts. Compression and Vale Tudo styles give you a close, supportive fit that is ideal for grappling, BJJ and MMA, or as a base layer for hygiene and support under your fight shorts. A practical piece more people should own.
Best for: BJJ and MMA, grappling, layering under shorts.
Lifestyle
Venum is a brand you can wear off the mats too. The lifestyle range carries the same look into everyday shorts and apparel, for the gym, the couch, or the walk-in. Not built for sparring, built for everything around it.
Best for: everyday wear, warm ups, rep the brand outside the gym.
Venum shorts sizing: read this before you buy
Here is the sizing tip that saves the most returns. Venum shorts run small, and the Muay Thai cuts in particular sit closer than a lot of people expect. As a general rule, size up one from your normal shorts size, especially for the Classic and Attack Muay Thai styles.
The MMA and training cuts are a little more true to size but still lean small, so if you are between sizes, go up. For the full picture across gloves, shin guards and shorts, our Venum sizing guide has the details.
Venum men's fight shorts
For regular-fit MMA and fight night shorts, sizing generally correlates to your waist circumference.
